- Antoni the Eccentric Hermit -
Day 496
For her birthday, my sister requested a "hermit crab with an architecturally-elaborate shell" for The Daily Zoo. I've long admired the organic and fluid style of the late 19th century Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi, so I pulled a book of his work off the shelf and browsed before starting to draw. His flowing shapes and use of embedded mosaics remind me of giant sand castles decorated with sea shells so it seemed fairly logical to incorporate those elements within the shell of a coastal crab.
